This product contains Chromium in the form of ‘glucose tolerance factor’ (GTF). This molecule also includes Niacin (Vitamin B3) and the amino acids: Glycine, Glutamic Acid and Cysteine. The Chromium is chelated with Polynicotinate (bonded to Niacin) for maximum bio-absorption, in this form it is readily absorbed by the body and functions more effectively.
Chromium is essentially involved in the synthesis of fats and proteins and in the metabolism of glucose, helping in cell synthesis , energy production and regulating blood sugar levels. Diabetes is an extreme form of lack of blood glucose control. Research has found that Chromium in the form of glucose tolerance factor (GTF) potentiates the utilisation and activity of insulin, a hormone that is involved in blood sugar metabolism and glycogen production, utilisation and storage. Effective blood sugar control prevents sugar or sweet cravings associated with erratic changes in blood sugar levels. Chromium also increases lean muscle mass and promotes fat loss and is therefore an ideal supplement for those on a weight loss programme, body builders and athletes. Evidence suggests that a significant proportion of the population sometimes have difficulty regulating blood sugar levels mainly due depletion of this mineral in soil, water and highly processed foods such as white flour and sugar. Low levels of Chromium have also been linked to coronary artery disease. Characteristic symptoms of Chromium deficiency include fatigue, lack of concentration, irritability, glucose intolerance and can lead to arteriosclerosis.

Diabetics, especially insulin dependant, should consult their medical practitioner and should monitor their insulin levels due to the hypoglycaemic effect of Chromium.
