Extra Info

  • Are you starting a grain-free diet? Trying to live healthier? Or simply interested in the versatility of coconuts in cooking? You’ve come to the right place! Coconut flour is a light and unique alternative to other cooking flours that is a unique and delicious staple to many interesting recipes!

Made from the meat of coconuts themselves, coconut flour is a natural by-product from making coconut milk and cold-pressed oil. When milk is pressed from coconuts, the coconut meat leftover can then be dried and ground, producing a fine powder suitable for baking: the coconut flour you know and love!

Low-carb and naturally gluten free, coconut flour is easy to digest and packed with healthy fats (from coconut oil!), which have been shown to improve the metabolism and keep you feeling full for longer. Coconut oil is high in fibre, low GI, and best of all – you don’t need a lot of it to cook with: just a bit goes a long way when teamed with enough eggs and liquid to achieve the perfect consistency! It’s a very dry flour, so it requires a higher liquid ratio than most flours. This means you cannot substitute it for wheat or grain based flours at a 1:1 ratio. Instead, as a rule of thumb, for every ounce of coconut flour you add you should add 1 egg. So if your original recipe had 8ounces of regular flour and 4eggs, this translates to 8ounces of coconut flour and 8eggs (4 from the original recipe and to cover the coconut flour). Or the best thing to do is to use specific coconut flour recipes, because eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to abandon your favourite foods! There are lots of fantastic recipes available for breads, cakes, cupcakes, pizza and everything in between!
