Ingredients

  • The Marie Louise Tote Contents As a senior midwife I have ensured that the Marie Louise Tote bag has been packed with essential, premium, safe and healthy products. Each product has been researched, tried, tested and approved by myself. MLM Organic Baby Wear Organic cotton is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. By prohibiting and restricting harmful chemicals in organic textile production and processing, final products remain free from allergenic, carcinogenic or toxic chemical residues. It's beneficial for cotton producers and also the environment in developing countries by avoiding the harmful effects of toxic pesticides, and the reduced cost of production improves social conditions. I recommend that parents try to ensure that anything directly touching their newborn babys' skin is organic for at least the first 6 weeks of life. Cotton Wool I always recommend cotton wool when changing babies in the first few days as they pass black and sticky meconium, so using warm water and cotton wool on a newborn is much kinder to their delicate and sensitive skin. Avoid using cold (especially fragranced) baby wipes during the first few weeks of life as they may cause irritation and nappy rash. Nappies Naty by Nature Babycare nappies are number one when it comes to safe, green disposable nappies. The GM Free corn starch film used as a leakage barrier replaces traditional plastics, mainly used on the market, but remains as effective and watertight so unlike plastic it is compostable and “breathes”. They allow air to reach the babys' delicate skin, resulting in an airier, drier and more comfortable nappy, thus causing less irritation. A child may use up to 8,000 nappies in their life time. Non biodegradable nappies can take 100 years to degrade whereas Naty by Nature Babycare nappies degrade in only 18 months. Mummies Eco Fresh Toiletries Kit I have chosen the Out of Eden brand for the suppliers of the toiletries kit as their tubes use 20% less plastic than bottles and the sachets are made from recycled paper. They have also been approved as an ERP (Environmentally Responsible Product) that is free from parabens and not tested on animals. Included is a dental kit and some soft slippers too! Naty Sanitary Pads Naty pads are gentle on the environment and based on natural and renewable materials with a soft top layer made from tree pulp. They are fluid resistant and have a breathable bottom layer made of corn film and are 100% chlorine free. Naty use totally chlorine free (TCF) pulp only in their sanitary pads. TCF is a technique that uses no chlorine compounds for the bleaching of wood pulp, this prevents the formation of dioxins - highly carcinogenic pollutants within the product, so their pads are gentle on the skin. 100% Organic Inlight NYP & Baby Balm Cream This product is a personal favourite of mine! It's a dual purpose cream for cracked nipples and nappy rash. Skin is the human bodys' largest organ and neonatal skin is 5x more permeable than that of an adult so whatever products are used newborn babies skin will be absorbed. Unfortunately, unlike organic food, there are no legal standards for organic cosmetic products. So, as a result some companies choose to label a product as 'organic' even if it only contains 1% organic ingredients and/or potentially hazardous substances. Inlight organic skincare contains the finest and most effective organic food grade and cold pressed oils, herbs, the purest essential oils and beeswax. That’s it! Hair Ties Not everyone needs them, but those that do will really appreciate these in labour. Women usually get hot and having hair stuck to and around their face in labour is irritating. Plus, if they are breastfeeding, they should be able to see if the baby is attached properly and the band can be placed on the wrist side that baby last fed from as a reminder. One less thing for mummies to have to think about. MLM Knickers Made in the UK, they are a mix of spandex and cotton for comfort. They are a high fit to cover the abdomen in case of caesarean section and they are more supportive for mummies that have had a normal birth. Everyone loves Bridget Jones style knickers post natally...trust me I'm a midwife! Maternity Nightshirt I have chosen a nightshirt as sleepwear because it unbuttons for breastfeeding mummies and it's comfy to sleep in, but it’s smart enough to greet visitors if they don't have time to change. Don't Forget... Your own pillow case for a little home comfort Glasses - if you wear them Your phone charger Your Kindle/ipad/a book Some change for the car park Some of your favourite snacks for you and your partner Car seat or safe mode of travel to leave the hospital Lavender oil for the postnatal period, it works wonders in the bath and a few drops on your pillow aid a calming night’s sleep
