Organic Aloe Vera Known to herbalists for centuries as the medical plant or the potted physician, this cactus-like plant with green leaves is filled with a clear, viscous gel, which liquefies when it comes in contact with the air. This gel contains important healing substances for the skin and hair: steroids, organic acids (amino acids), enzymes, and polysaccharides. The regenerative qualities of Aloe Vera thus make it suitable for the treatment of hair, and it is claimed to be effective against dandruff and hair loss resulting from seborrhoea. Aloe Vera is also a sun protector
Organic Tea Tree Oil is extracted from the Tea Tree plant (Melaleuca alternifolia) and used in high concentration to remarkable effect. It is well known for its numerous beneficial effects as a deep cleansing, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-microbial agent as well as an immuno-stimulant. Therefore it has the ability of deep cleansing oily or troubled skin & hair types, as it helps to remove harmful bacteria, fighting the effects of grease, pollution and environmental dirt. It may be used topically for some skin infections Tea tree oil has a 70-year history of safe use and scientific data to support claims about its properties. A small number of people are allergic to the oil and experience skin reaction at low concentrations. It is especially recommended for teen-agers, those with greasy skin or acne, yet is also suitable for use with children and babies. Our Organic Tea Tree Soap contains organic Tea Tree oil, further benefiting our well being
Patchouli Oil Patchouli Oil is an exotic essential oil grown in Malaysia. It is a thick, dark yellow-brown substance, often with a green tinge. Its aroma is misty, pungent and penetrating and its benefits are many. We use Patchouli Oil because of its benefits as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, fungicidal and as a cell regenerator for skin. We also find it beneficial due its qualities as a calmative and nervine, which helps to relax the whole person.
Ylang Ylang Ylang Ylang is a tropical tree, native to Indonesia and the Philippines. For medicinal uses, oil is extracted from its yellow flowers by steam-distillation. This oil has a narcotic, floral-sweet, jasmine-like aroma
Ylang Ylang is one of the most relaxing fragrances to both mind and body and serves as a natural antidepressant. Like many natural remedies, it seems to energize or relax one, depending upon the individuals needs. It is suitable for both oily and dry skin & hair, but especially those with combination skin, as it balances the secretions of sebum. An evening bath with Ylang Ylang helps chase away daily tensions and restores calm and balance
Ylang Ylang oil is also very effective when applied before shampooing to treat split ends. It balances oil production when used as a hair conditioner, and also has a tonic effect on the scalp. Some people in Asia even use it to protect their hair from the damages of swimming in salt water
Detergents and Skin Irritation
The detergent used in Faith in Nature Shampoo, as well as in Clear Spring Washing Up Liquid, is made from a vegetable base. The particular choice of detergent (also called surfactant) is Ammonium laureth sulphate (ALES). This is much less irritant than the more usual Sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) used in the majority of shampoos. It is also a much more skin friendly detergent for washing up liquids than is usually used in most commercial brands. These can often be comparatively harsh and can cause skin reactions such as excessive dryness and cracking of the skin. For people suffering such problems, Clear Spring Washing Up Liquid can often be an appropriate choice.
Whilst there has been considerable debate concerning the use of SLES in shampoos (as SLES is used as an industry standard in patch testing for skin irritation) ALES has not been implicated in this debate, partly because of it much reduced skin irritation.
Hygiene and Quality Audits and Preservatives
Hygiene and quality are of prime concern in the manufacturing of all products. For the safety of all our consumers (as well as our much valued staff), great stress is put on all our procedures to maintain the highest level of cleanliness, both in our environment and more importantly in our products.
That is why we have commissioned an ISO 9001:2000 accredited microbiological testing house specialising in cosmetic production to do all our testing. These tests range from
• regular site hygiene audits,
• regular water sampling for purity
• ongoing challenge tests (designed to prove the effectiveness of our natural preservation system)
• microbiological tests on all products which are released from our factory.
Nuts about preservatives
That is why we can offer you products which are naturally preserved, without the use of synthetic preservatives and why our products are amongst the finest and purest in the market. We are such nuts about the purity of our products that we do not even buy a single ingredient that goes into our shampoos, hand wash, shower gel/foam bath, laundry liquid, rinse aids and soaps which is preserved in any way whatsoever. So you can rest assured that there are no trace preservatives, which can build up through the use of any of Faith in Nature products mentioned above.
