Product Description

  • Aptamil Comfort is nutritionally tailored with our unique blend of GOS/FOS prebiotics helping to soften stools. It also contains nucleotides and antioxidants, and has milk proteins which have been partially broken down (partially hydrolysed) to make them much gentler on your baby’s digestive system.

Aptamil Comfort now also contains long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) from the omega-3 and omega-6 groups, which means that bottlefed babies suffering from colic and constipation can get the benefits of LCPs right up to the age of one year.

Directions

  • Wash and sterilise bottles and teats according to manufacturer’s instructions. Wash your hands and wipe clean all surfaces to prevent the spread of germs.

Boil freshly run tap water and leave to cool for 30 mins, unless otherwise indicated on pack. Measure required amount of water (refer to on-pack instructions) into a sterilised bottle. Do not use repeatedly boiled water.

For accurate dosage, always use scoop provided and level off powder with built-in leveller (if provided). Alternatively, level with a clean, dry knife. Do not press extra powder into scoop.

Add correct measure of powder to water. Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful. The feeding instructions on the pack will give you an indication of the number of feeds your baby may need per day.

Screw cap on bottle and shake well for 10 seconds to dissolve powder in water. If necessary, cool feed under cold running water. Remove seal and replace with sterilised teat. Test temperature of milk by allowing some drops to fall on your wrist. If it feels comfortable, it should be just right for your baby. Do not heat feeds in a microwave as hot spots can occur and cause scalding.

Use made-up feeds within two hours. Once used, discard any leftover milk, wash bottles and teats, and re-sterilise, ready for next feed.

Remember to also sterilise your bottlefeeding equipment properly – why not download our guide to sterilising for step-by-step instructions?

Because the formula is slightly thicker, using a variable flow teat or a single hole teat with medium or fast flow is recommended.

Ingredients

  • What’s in our milk?
Aptamil Comfort contains less than half the levels of lactose in standard milks, as lactose can sometimes be hard for an immature digestive system to break down. It also has partially broken down (partially hydrolysed) whey proteins, helping to reduce the potential for feeding discomfort in babies with colic, and contains a special fat blend which helps to produce softer stools. The formula is also slightly thicker to prevent your baby gulping and taking in too much air during feeding.

    What are prebiotics?
Prebiotic oligosaccharides, often shortened to prebiotics, are special carbohydrates that pass undigested beyond the tummy into the lower gut where they encourage your baby's friendly bacteria to thrive1,2.

Prebiotics occur naturally in breastmilk and a variety of fruits, grains and vegetables, including bananas, artichokes, chicory and onions.

    What are GOS/FOS prebiotics?
We add a unique prebiotic blend of galacto- (GOS) and fructo- (FOS) oligosaccharides to all Aptamil milks which are derived from chicory and lactose.

If you are switching to Aptamil Comfort from a different infant formula without prebiotics, you may notice that your baby passes softer, looser and lighter coloured stools. This is perfectly normal because of the special formulation and as babies fed on infant milks with prebiotic oligosaccharides tend to produce softer, more comfortable stools as a result of their healthy gut flora.

    Nucleotides
Aptamil Comfort contains nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA – a set of instructions for every cell in the body.

Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs)
LCPs are special beneficial fatty acids, from the omega-3 and omega-6 groups, which are essential for the development of your baby’s brain and eyes. World experts have concluded that the current evidence strongly supports the inclusion of LCPs in infant formula.3 We’ve recently added LCPs to Aptamil Comfort in amounts recommended by leading nutritional experts - so now bottlefed babies with colic and constipation can get the added benefits of LCPs right up to the age of one year.

    Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals
Aptamil Comfort contains the antioxidants, vitamin C, E and selenium, which help protect your baby’s body against cell damage from free radicals. Our nutritionally complete formula also contains all the other essential vitamins and minerals your baby needs, including iron, calcium and phosphorus.

More

  • Managing colic and constipation in babies
If you suspect your baby has either colic or constipation, the first thing to do is to speak to your healthcare professional as there are often ways to relieve symptoms without changing your baby's feed. If advised by your healthcare professional, you may want to consider Aptamil Comfort; a food for special medical purposes, formulated for the dietary management of colic and constipation in babies who are being bottlefed.

    Signs of colic

•2–3 hour spells of loud crying, often 15 minutes after feeding. As a guide, colic usually involves repeated excessive and inconsolable crying which lasts for 3 hours or more a day, on at least 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks. Crying is often high-pitched and frantic and happens more in the late afternoon and evening.
    •Flushed face
    •Clenched fists
•Legs pulled up to the chest
Colic can occur any time in the first few weeks after birth but usually disappears by the time your baby is 3 months old.

    Signs of constipation

•Fewer bowel movements or your baby may pass unusually small or
    large, hard stools with difficulty
•It's normal for babies to appear to strain when trying to poo, but if it
seems like a real struggle and they cry then it might be constipation
    •Reduced appetite

Constipation in babies may be caused by a change of diet, dehydration or a minor illness. Bottlefed babies tend to have firmer, darker stools than breastfed babies and are more likely to suffer from constipation.
