Rakusen's Matzo Crackers - 150g

Rakusen’s Matzos are simply a wholesome blend of fine English wheat flour and pure water. Each Matzo is flame-baked in a traditional long oven for just sixty seconds to give them their incomparable crispness and subtle nutty flavour.

Rakusen’s was founded in 1890 by Lloyd Rakusen, who was a jeweller by trade. Every Passover, Lloyd would bake matzos in the kitchen of his home. This sideline blossomed into a flourishing business and by the early 1930’s a factory was built on Meanwood Road in Leeds to produce his matzos.

Joined in the business by his sons - who continued to run it after Lloyd passed away in 1944 - Rakusen’s were pioneers in food development for the next 30 years. They introduced a range of new products to the UK, including bottled vegetable oil, dried pasta and instant mashed potato. They also acquired the business of Bonn and Co., the only other domestic manufacturer of matzos.

The 1970’s proved to be a turbulent decade as the company went into public ownership and later, in 1978, went in to receivership. United Biscuits purchased the assets and the company then continued to trade as a division of UB.

A management buyout in 1983 saw the company leave United Biscuits and return to private ownership. The current owners have run the company since that time.

The Company now operates from a modern factory on the outskirts of Leeds, where it combines the most stringent demands of food production with up to date technologies in producing speciality crackers in a nut and dairy free environment.
