This shrub comes from North America and its leaves are widely used for all circulatory disorders. Its composition is rich in flavonoids and condensed tannins called pro-anthocyanidins.
The Plant for the Fragility of the Capillary Tissues:
Witch hazel has a double action on circulation : a tonic action on the veins due to its tannins and the properties of vitamin P due to its flavonoids. Vitamin B increases the resistance of the capillary tissues and regulates their permeability, having at the same time an anti-inflammatory effect. Witch hazel is recommended for reduction of venous oedema, and with its tonic action it will be of benefit in the treatment of varicose veins, tired and heavy legs and will help relieve haemorrhoids.
The activity of vitamin P coupled with the protective action of proanthocyanidins is very useful for the improvement of the capillary vessels which can burst under the skin. Flavonoids are major antioxidants that protect the blood vessel walls.
