Oilatum Bath Emollient reduces skin roughness and scaling, soothes irritation and itching, rehydrates the skin, and helps protect against further drying.
It is an effective cleanser, so you do not need to use any extra soap which may irritate the skin.
Oilatum also has a mild anti-inflammatory action which can help improve atopic eczema, and reduce the need for topical steroids.

| Direction / Advice: |
• Use Oilatum at least once a day, and twice if possible.
• For adults and children : Add 1-3 capfuls of Oilatum to 8 inches of warm water, and swish it around.
Make sure the water is not too hot, or it may irritate the skin.
• For babies : Add 1/2-2 capfuls of Oilatum to a baby bath.
• Stay in the bath for at least 10 minutes (20 if you can) to give the emollient time to work properly.
• Do not use any soap or bubble bath, as these may irritate the skin. Oilatum Emollient is an effective cleanser, so no extra soap is necessary.
• Take care not to slip when you're getting in and out of the bath.
• Pat your skin dry gently so that you do not rub all the Oilatum off.
• Remember to wipe round the bath afterwards.
Cleaning the bath or shower
Oilatum Bath Emollients and Oilatum Gel are formulated to disperse on contact with water and to leave oil on the surfaces, which come in contact with the water. A film of oil is therefore inevitably deposited on the surface of the bath or shower. This can make the surface slippery, so you need to take care.
If the bath or shower is not cleaned regularly, the layer of oil can build up. There are many proprietary bath-cleaning products, but for this specific purpose we have received feedback from patients that it's hard to beat neat washing-up liquid. The neat detergent emulsifies the oil, allowing it to be rinsed away.

Oilatum contains a carefully balanced formulation with a very low potential for sensitising or irritant reactions, so it is suitable for the most delicate skin, and can safely be used even on babies.
It is suitable for all kinds of dry skin conditions, but particularly for those which need all-over treatment, such as atopic eczema or general dry skin.
