| Product Description |
Iron in the Bisglycinate form is less likely to cause constipation and gastric upset than other forms of Iron and effectively increases patient compliance. Many women commonly suffer from Iron-deficient anaemia, particularly women of child bearing age. Recent research suggests that a subclinical Iron deficiency may impair cognitive function.
Iron is an essential mineral which is predominantly found in large amounts in the blood and is required for the production of haemoglobin and myoglobin. Haemoglobin is a pigment found in red blood cells and is responsible for carrying oxygen to every living cell in the body. Myoglobin is the pigment found in muscle cells and helps in the storage of oxygen in the muscles. The essentiality of Iron is due, in part, to its presence in haeme. The atom of Iron in the centre of the haeme molecule allows the transport and transitional storage of oxygen in tissues, particularly the cardiac muscle, and the transport of electrons through the respiratory chain. Other functions of Iron include a role in energy production, enzyme synthesis and immune health. Various factors can contribute to Iron deficiency such as excessive bleeding due to menstrual and gastro-intestinal disorders, poor digestion, insufficient dietary intake and prolonged use of certain antacids and drugs which deplete Iron from the body. Characteristic symptoms of Iron deficiency include fatigue, dizziness, laboured breathing, fragile bones, poor hair and nail condition, mouth sores and can lead to anaemia and impaired cognitive function.
