What is Coenzyme Q10?
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vital catalyst in the provision of energy for all the body’s cells. It is a redox component in the respiratory chain.
At least ten types of coenzyme Q have been recognised and accordingly designated coenzyme Q0 to coenzyme Q10. The variety of coenzyme Q identified in human tissue is coenzyme Q10. It is a vitamin-like substance found in all cells of the body. Concentrated deposits of this essential biochemical are to be found in the in heart muscle, nervous tissue and blood.
The identification of the involvement of CoQ10 in such a wide diversity of cells is indicative firstly of its importance and secondly of the two major roles in which it is involved: as an essential biochemical link in the formation of energy and as an antioxidant.
CoQ10 functions essentially in the transfer of oxygen and energy between the blood and body cells and between components of those cells (i.e. mitochondria). The cell is unable to function effectively without CoQ10 and when it is deficient the work rate of the cells is adversely affected.
CoQ10 is present in the diet, mainly from meats and oily fish, and it is also manufactured to a small degree within the body from the amino acid methionine but production declines as we age.

Whilst coenzyme Q10 is a natural substance produced by the body, it has not yet been tested during pregnancy as a food supplement. We would therefore advise against taking this product during this time of life, unless specifically advised by a medical professional.
Coenzyme Q10 + Magnesium is usually very well tolerated. As with any food, there is always a possibility that individuals may have a sensitivity to one or more ingredients contained in the product. We always recommend that in the event of any unusual symptoms being noted upon taking our products they should be discontinued and if necessary a doctor consulted to rule out any other cause for the symptoms.
This product is best taken in the morning or lunchtime as it may have a stimulating effect on sensitive individuals and therefore affect sleep. Transient nausea has been reported as a side-effect of taking coenzyme Q10, however, it would appear that this is rare and may well be ameliorated if the product is taken with food.

As coenzyme Q10 may have a stimulating effect, the best time to take this product is in the morning with breakfast or at midday with lunch. It is important to take coenzymeQ10 with food, especially containing some oil or fat, in order to enhance the absorption of this enzyme.
A regular intake is recommended.
