Cup-in-the-Sleeve Green Tea is a fine example of high mountain green tea. It is made from Camellia sinensis, the plant from which all Chinese teas originate, and is a native of a small, mountainous and rainy area of South China.
Drinking green tea was a sign of status for early Chinese nobility, and right from the start – it is reputed to have come in about 2700BC – it’s had a strong imperial connection. One legend has it that the Emperor was once sitting with a cup of hot water under a tree and some leaves fell down from above. Thus tea was born.
Our Organic Cup-in-the-Sleeve Green Tea takes its name from the habit of old Chinese tea lovers, who would carry a favourite little teacup in their flowing sleeves when attending tea parties and poetry competitions besides streams or picturesque waterfalls.
All in all, given its delicious taste and distinguised heritage, it’s no surprise that green tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world.
Cup-in-the-Sleeve Green Tea has many subtle nuances of taste.
It is light and mild in flavour with a soft robustness yet has none of the bitterness sometimes associated with lesser green teas. And since it is only lightly processed, it retains a fresh, bright taste.
Long a leading component in traditional Chinese medicine, green tea has a number of important properties, including two important active ingredients – catechin and theanine. It is also a natural antioxidant and has six times more polyphenols than black tea.

| Directions |
Cup-in-the-Sleeve Green Tea is at its best when infused with freshly boiled water that has been allowed to just go off the boil. Allow to infuse for 2 to 3 minutes or according to your taste. Add water to the pot a second or third time to enjoy the subtle changes in flavour with each successive cup.
In China, many people gargle with green tea as it is said to be very helpful in getting rid of the unwanted mouth bacteria that cause bad breath.

| More |
At Dragonfly Teas we consider that the way crops are grown is intrinsic to the well-being of everyone.
Working with nature to achieve the best quality with little or no chemicals involved is in our view, the way things should be.
The demands of the modern world for more; faster; better has resulted in short term exploitation of the land and the people who work it, with no thought for the future.
So we prefer to do things differently.
We believe that it is important to respect the relationship to the land of those who patiently grow our food (often under great hardship).
We are aware of the difference that the ancient country artisan traditions of food–making can make. Traditions that are thankfully still used today to create high quality teas and other foods, such as fine wines and local cheeses.
There are reputedly up to 8,000 different hand-made teas in China. They are part of a 1,500-year-old tradition. These are disappearing rapidly through mechanical and chemical intervention. The world has plenty of poor quality teas with very few of high quality on offer. This is because of lack of consumer awareness of the rich heritage of taste experiences produced by the smaller artisan tea-makers.
Dragonfly Teas is pledged to bring these teas to the discerning palate and in so doing, help to keep alive the traditions and skills that have created them.
We believe strongly in the ideals of the Slow Food movement, which is growing fast throughout Europe. We think it is important that every country has a dynamic small-scale agricultural food production sector. It ensures that rural people are rewarded for their efforts and helps to stop the depopulation of the countryside.
We also support non-political Fair Trade that campaigns to ensure we pay fairly and as directly as possible to the farmers with as few intermediaries as possible. This means that more of the profits end up directly in the hands of the communities that grow the crops.
