Product Description:
Dioralyte is recommended for the replacement of essential water and salt loss in infants, children and adults from whatever cause and in the treatment of watery diarrhoea of various causes. Early use is important to avoid dehydration, particularly in the young and elderly.
HealthWarning:
Ask your doctor before taking this medicine if:

You have persistent vomiting
You are suffering from an intestinal obstruction (which may give you severe pain or swelling)
You have kidney or liver trouble
You have diabetes
You are on a low sodium or potassium diet.

Always ensure that each sachet is dissolved in 200 ml (approx. 7 fl oz) of water.
If more than the recommended amount of water is used, the solution will become too weak and not have the most effective concentration for water and salt absorption. If less than the recommended amount of water is used, the solution will be too concentrated and give rise to water loss instead of absorption.

This medicine contains saccharin.
Direction / Advice:
How To Prepare:
Empty contents of one Dioralyte sachet into a glass.
Add 200 ml (7 fl oz) of fresh drinking water*.
Stir well until dissolved.
*For infants, or where drinking water is not available, the water should be freshly boiled then cooled.

It is important to prepare Dioralyte correctly with not too much nor too little water.
Do not boil the Dioralyte solution itself or make it stronger.

The solution should prepared immediately before being taken, and any solution remaining after 1 hour should be thrown away unless it is kept in a refrigerator in which case it can be kept for up to 24 hours.

Dioralyte should only be prepared in water.

When To Take Dioralyte:
In the early stages of diarrhoea all foods (except breast milk in breast fed infants) should be stopped, but as illness improves, usually after 24 to 48 hours the normal diet should be gradually resumed.

Infants up to the age of 2: The usual dose is one to one and a half times the normal 24 hour feed volume of Dioralyte solution prepared as directed above.

Children aged 2 to 12 years: One sachet dissolved in 200 ml (approx. 7 fl oz) of water after each loose bowel motion.

Adults including elderly persons: The powder in one sachet dissolved in 200 ml (approx. 7 fl oz) of drinking water or the contents of two sachets dissolved in 400 ml (approx. 14 fl oz) of drinking water after each loose bowel motion. When vomiting is present with the diarrhoea, it is recommended that small amounts be taken frequently. However, it is important that the whole of the required volume of Dioralyte be taken. If symptoms persist and no improvement is seen after 24-48 hours medical advice must be sought. Dioralyte is not normally harmful if more than the recommended amount is taken. If excessive amounts are taken you should seek your doctor's advice.
