How does ProXeed® Plus work?
Sperm development, like the development of other specialized cells, is a very complex process starting with the immature sperm cells in the testes and ending with fully mature and motile sperm capable of fertilization. The primary ingredients in ProXeed® Plus, L-Carnitine (LC) fumarate, and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) HCl, play a key role in the efficiency of energy metabolism and the maturation of the sperm membrane. The vitamins in ProXeed® Plus play an active role in optimizing sperm health and correcting low sperm count.
During the development, maturation, and post-ejaculatory processes, sperm rely on different metabolic strategies and use a variety of substances for their source of energy. Regardless of the substance used, LC is intimately involved in the utilization. LC is necessary for the movement of fats into the cell, where they can be broken down into usable energy. Besides moving fatty acid into the cell for energy production, LC is also responsible for removing excess unused acyl groups (end products and intermediates of fatty acid metabolism) from the cell, thereby allowing other enzymatic processes which would otherwise be shut down by the buildup of unused acyl groups.
Mature sperm must be both motile and flexible in order to reach and join an egg. Cell wall flexibility is determined by sperm membrane fat composition, specifically the amount and quality of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The degree of membrane unsaturation increases as sperm mature. The primary source of the acetyl groups for this unsaturation process is ALC.
