The urologist and extreme biker Dr. Stefan Staudte, a member of the development team at SQ-lab is responsible for the concept step saddle from SQ-lab. The concept presented in 2003 and proven over recent years from a number of tests, is perfectly matched to the sporty trekking rider. The body weight is distributed to 80% of the seating bones and only 20% to the perineum, rather than vice versa as with conventional saddles.
To determine the optimal saddle width: 1) You need a chair with a level as possible seating area (not hollow) and a piece of corrugated cardboard the size of the seat surface 2) Place the corrugated cardboard on the chair and sit down with a slight hollow back 3) Grasp with hands under the seat and pull up so the buttocks (without slipping around) are firmly against the seat 4) Stand up again, remove the corrugated board and measure the width of the depressions you have left in the corrugated board 5) Now add, according to type of rider, 0.5 cm for sporty road bikers, 1.5 cm for ambitious leisure and MTB cyclists and 3.0 cm for relaxed riding 6) Now you know the optimal width of the SQ-lab saddle. When in doubt, order the next wider version.
