Traditionally, Chia seeds are consumed whole in the form of a drink called "Chia fresca". They are also used in baking, breads and pastries. The seeds can also be ground down and used to supplement other types of flour. Chia seeds contain a lot of valuable Minerals such as Phosphorus, Calcium and Potassium. The plant has almost no history in Europe before being introduced to Europe in 2009 as a "Novel Food" and it is recommended to be used in the baking of bread up to 5% of the total.
